AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a four-year elective class for students with potential to succeed in a four-year college given extra encouragement and academic support. Students will develop and improve their study and learning strategies to improve performance in their academic classes. Effective note taking, organization, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test strategies, and self-awareness are emphasized. These skills will help students succeed in rigorous, college-prep classes (students are expected to take at least one Advanced Placement or college course). Students will be coached individually and in study groups by specially trained tutors. 11th and 12th grades place additional emphasis on research skills, college test preparation, college applications, and financial aid. Contact the counseling department for more information.
