Are We Ready?
No, we’re NOT ready for a disaster or lockdown.

Are We Trying to Get Ready?
Yes!

As the first Health and Safety Chairperson in many years at DP, I am becoming acutely aware of how unprepared we are. I have thoroughly inventoried our disaster bin and many of the classrooms to determine the status of our emergency supplies. I have found that most of our food, water, and first aid supplies are completely out of date. In the last year, there have been FIVE lockdowns at Santa Barbara schools. San Marcos alone was under lockdown for nearly eight hours. The need to be appropriately prepared is clear. With the help of Assistant Principal Jorge Fulco, the DP PTSA has determined that the #1 priority for the health and safety of our students during a lockdown or natural disaster is to prepare the classrooms. We have researched the most comprehensive and cost-effective solutions and have determined that, with a student body of 2,475, the cost will be approximately $10,500. This averages out to $4.25 per student for their basic needs to be met in case of a lockdown for an undetermined amount of time.

What Does This Mean to Me?
We Need Your Help!
I am asking each parent to donate $10.00, or whatever is financially comfortable for you to help us purchase emergency preparedness supplies. These donations will be used to purchase first aid materials, food bars suitable for diabetic and special-needs students, water and waste facilities for each classroom for one day. Remember, an emergency situation can occur anyplace, anytime. If students are on campus, we want them to have the basic necessities. We really need your help right now. Please send your donation to Health and Safety c/o DP PTSA, or visit the PTSA website at DPHS.org and charge it to your credit card. Please feel free to contact Health and Safety Chairperson Carol Craviotto, RN for further information at 967-4018 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. shooting star

Dear parents and friends of DPHS,

This Wish List is a means for teachers and staff to let you know simple items they need to make DP run smoothly and effectively for our students.   In this time of severe budget cuts, please consider being a “bright and shining star” by fulfilling one or more of the wishes below.   Every small donation goes to improving our children’s education and helping offset the cuts our schools are having to absorb.

Please bring donations to the office with the teacher’s name clearly marked on the item or contact the teacher directly.  Please include your name or “anonymous”, as well.  If you have any questions please contact Shelly Cobb, Wish List Coordinator ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
